Port Angeles, WA, USA ? September 2, 2007.

Fontlab Ltd. announces the release of version 2.0 of their free Photoshop-compatible Photofont Start plugin for Mac and Windows.

Photofont Start is a free plugin that brings the beauty of full-color Photofont? bitmap fonts to Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter and other compatible applications for Mac OS and Windows.

?Outline font formats such as TrueType or OpenType are limited to monochrome letterforms. Bitmap fonts can use the full color palette and transparency. So far, color bitmap fonts have been widely used in computer games as well as in TV, film and motion graphics applications. Our Photofont technology allows that same creative power in traditional print and web applications. Photofonts allow users to break free from the traditional black-and-white lettering and use fonts that are made of real calligraphic brush strokes, everyday objects, scanned historical documents or felt pen doodles. Photofonts are not only fun but also open serious business opportunities for example in the field of personalized marketing.? said Ted Harrison, President of Fontlab Ltd.

Harrison continued: ?Our free Photofont Start plugins brings this the beauty of full-color type to users of Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter and other compatible applications. We have more plugins in development, for Adobe InDesign, Adobe Flash and other technologies. Third parties are also working in incorporating the Photofont format into their products. For example, em2 solutions? XcgfK font renderer brings photofonts to mobile devices.?

The concurrent release of the updated version of the free Photofont Start plugin and a new major version of Fontlab?s professional bitmap font editor BitFonter 3 sets a new milestone in establishing of the Photofont technology. Version 2 of the Photofont Start adds compatibility to the Adobe CS3 applications, fixes some bugs and brings tremendous speed increase: the user can select and preview photofonts almost 10x faster than in the initial release of the plugin. The Photofont file format specification is based on open standards like XML and PNG and is publicly available. The plugin is compatible with Adobe and Corel applications for Mac and Windows including Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, ImageReady, Corel Draw, Photo-Paint, Painter, Paint Shop Pro. It is also compatible with Adobe Illustrator for Windows, and other applications that support the Photoshop plugin interface.
